Gary Hack represents an at-large seat on the Antioch Unified School District school board in California. Hack won the seat in the at-large general election on November 8, 2016.[1]

Hack previously served on the board. He was first elected to the board on November 2, 2010, and served until 2014, when he was defeated in the general election on November 4, 2014.

Hack moved to Antioch in 1969 to work as a classroom teacher in the Antioch Unified School District. He taught for 31 years before serving as president of the Antioch Education Association. Hack also maintained his own business as an independent contractor. In addition to serving on the Antioch Unified Board of Trustees, Hack is an ordained permanent deacon at St. Ignatius Catholic Church. He and his wife have three children, all of whom graduated from the Antioch Unified School District.[2][3]

Three of the five seats on the Antioch Unified School District board of trustees were up for at-large general election on November 8, 2016. In their bids for re-election, incumbents Diane Gibson-Gray, Fernando Navarro, and Alonzo Terry faced newcomers Mike Burkholder and Crystal Sawyer-White. They also faced former Antioch Unified trustees Gary Hack and Joy Motts. Gibson-Gray won another term, Sawyer-White was elected as a new member, and Hack returned to the board after two years away.[4][5]

The race featured two incumbents, Joy Motts and Gary Hack, and two challengers, Walter Ruehlig and Debra Vinson. Challengers Ruehlig and Vinson defeated incumbents Motts and Hack.

Funding

Hack filed Form 470 with the Contra Costa County Elections Division on August 1, 2014, to indicate he did not plan to spend or receive more than $1,000 in this election. Because of that, he did not have to file any additional campaign finance reports.[8]

Endorsements

Hack received endorsements from the Contra Costa Central Labor Council and the California Labor Federation.[9][10]
