Gary Hanson, Former South Dakota state senator
Gary D. Hanson was a Democratic member of the South Dakota State Senate, representing the 1st District from 2005 to 2011. Previously, he served as a member of the South Dakota House of Representatives from 1998 to 2004[1]. Senator Hanson did not run for re-election in the South Dakota State Senate 2010 elections.[2]
He joined the South Dakota State Senate in 2004 and served in that position until 2011. During this time he served as Assistant Minority Leader.
Hanson was a board member for Farmers Elevator from 1995 to 2000. He worked as director for Farmers Elevator from 1990 to 2006. He has worked as a farmer and rancher.
Hanson attended South Dakota State University from 1968 to 1971.

On Nov. 4, 2008, Hanson won re-election to the 1st District Seat in the South Dakota State Senate, defeating opponent Lucas Lentsch (R).[3]
Hanson raised $9,340 for his campaign while Lentsch raised $18,933.[4]

On Nov. 5, 2002, Hanson won re-election to the 1st District Seat in the South Dakota House of Representatives, defeating opponents Lynn Wilson and Neil G. Stokke.[9]
Hanson raised $61,627 for his campaign while Sigdestad raised $2,065. Wilson raised $4,336, and Stokke raised $299.[10]
2000
On Nov. 7, 2000, Hanson won re-election to the 1st District Seat in the South Dakota House of Representatives, defeating opponents Larry Baumgarn (R) and Gilbert DeSpiegler (R).[11]
Hanson raised $10,934 for his campaign while Sigdestad raised $5,825. DeSpiegler raised $4,233, and Baumgarn raised $2,071.[12]
1998
On Nov. 3, 1998, Hanson won election to the 1st District Seat in the South Dakota House of Representatives, defeating opponents Larry Baumgarn (R) and V. LeRoy Bergan (D).[13]
