Gary Kroeger was a 2016 Democratic candidate for District 60 of the Iowa House of Representatives.

Kroeger was a 2016 Democratic candidate who sought election to the U.S. House to represent the 1st Congressional District of Iowa.[1] He dropped out of the race in March 2016.[2]

Campaign themes

2016

Kroeger's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[3]

The economy

  • Excerpt: "To attract more business investment in this state, Iowa needs to do more to improve its infrastructure, particularly in rural areas and smaller communities hit hardest by population decline and job loss."

Clean water and the environment

  • Excerpt: "We have a water quality problem in Iowa resulting from Iowa watersheds absorbing or transmitting excess sediment and nutrients from Iowa's farming operations. This is not disputed by Iowa farmers, the Brandstad administration, or Iowa citizens in general. Governor Branstad has even put total cost on mitigating the problem: $4.7 billion. The problem is in deciding who is going to pay."

Education

  • Excerpt: "Student loans must not burden our graduates with crippling debt. I support lowering interest rates, capping yearly tuition increases, pre-loan counselling, and debt forgiveness programs in certain circumstances."

The role and size of government

  • Excerpt: "I believe in the right-sized government (no pun intended): efficient, effective and only as large as it needs to be. That means we can't just throw money at problems or give tax breaks that don't help our state's economy grow."
