Gary L. Clingman
Gary L. Clingman (Republican Party) was a judge of the New Mexico Supreme Court. He assumed office on April 30, 2018. He left office on December 31, 2018.
Clingman (Republican Party) ran in a special election for judge of the New Mexico Supreme Court. He lost in the special general election on November 6, 2018.
Clingman was appointed to the court by Republican Governor Susana Martinez in 2018 to fill the seat vacated by Justice Edward Chavez.[1]
He was previously a district court judge in the Fifth Judicial District of New Mexico.[2] Clingman was appointed to the court in 1997.[3] He was last retained in 2014 for a term that would have expired on December 31, 2020.[4]
Clingman was a finalist for the vacancy on the New Mexico Supreme Court created by Justice Richard Bosson's October 30, 2015, retirement.[5]
Education
Clingman received his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas and his J.D. from Texas Tech Law School in 1985. He is also seeking a postgraduate degree in Judicial Studies at the University of Nevada.[3][6]

Prior to his appointment, Clingman was an attorney in private practice. Clingman has also served as an instructor at the National Judicial College in Reno.[3]

Clingman was retained to the 5th District Court with 79.5 percent of the vote on November 4, 2014. [4]
Judicial performance evaluation
The New Mexico Judicial Performance Evaluation Commission recommended that Judge Clingman be retained. The full report is available here.
