Efforts to recall Councilmen Gary Lacombe and Timothy Vessel in Gonzales, Louisiana from their positions were launched in April 2014. Supporters targeted Lacombe and Vessel over their amending of proposed city budgets to decrease police funding.[1] A recall election took place on December 6, 2014. Vessel was successfully recalled, while Lacombe resigned before the recall election.[2]

The initial recall petition was filed on April 23, 2014. Supporters needed to collect 2,145 signatures by October 23, 2014. More than 2,700 signatures were turned in on September 16, 2014. The Registrar of Voters had until October 1, 2014 to verify the signatures.[1] After verification, Gov. Bobby Jindal set the recall election for December 6, 2014. Lacombe resigned on November 25, 2014, to avoid the recall.[2]
