Gary McDowell was the Michigan Director of Agriculture and Rural Development. McDowell assumed office in 2019. McDowell left office on December 31, 2022.
Previously, he was a Democratic member of the Michigan House of Representatives, representing District 107 from 2005 to January 1, 2011. He also ran for Congress in 2012.
Biography
McDowell was born on a farm in Rudyard, Michigan, and is the oldest of ten children. He graduated from Rudyard High School in 1970 and attended Lake Superior State College.

Elections
2012
McDowell was defeated by incumbent Dan Benishek.[2] McDowell ran in the 2012 election for the U.S. House to represent Michigan's 1st District. After Derek Bailey withdrew from the race in late April, McDowell ran unopposed in the August 7 primary. He faced Republican incumbent Dan Benishek, Emily Salvette (L) and Ellis Boal (G) in the general election on November 6, 2012.[3]
