Campaign themes

2018

Schultz included these statements on his campaign website:[3]

Words to govern by, those of former Detroit Pistons head coach Chuck Daly. 'A pessimist,' he says, 'is an optimist with experience.'

I have lived in the Village of West Milwaukee for over 21 years. My daughter is a West Allis Central graduate and my son is currently a senior at West Allis Central. I have volunteered extensively in my time in the district. I'm currently the president of the West Allis Central Booster Club. Since my daughter was in K4 I have volunteered extensively in the district, as local school PTA Treasurer, coaching rec sports, and other volunteer activities. Also, I'm going on my 11th year as a member of the West Milwaukee Police Commission...

I will add more information during the coming months leading up to the election. You can also find information on my Facebook Page. Two areas in which I feel strongly are in the areas of accountability and policy. For accountability, hold district administration accountable for their actions. For policy, district administration staff create fair and equitable policies for schools and extracurricular programs, and adhere to the policy. Check back to get additional information on my run for the West Allis-West Milwaukee et al, school board. [4]

Schultz also responded to questions from the journal sentinel. The questions are bolded below, followed by Schultz's answers:[5]

The nation is experiencing an astounding number of school shootings, resulting the undermining of safety on school grounds. What actions are needed to prevent this national nightmare from happening locally?

Schools are porous buildings and someone who wants to do harm can easily access. The district has taken measures to improve security, but more needs to be done. We almost need to have a fortress mentality: difficult to penetrate, encounter a defense if penetrated. Are we prepared to fund this?

What makes you the strongest of the four school board candidates to serve in public office?

I'm the best candidate because I understand the need to not be content with the status quo. At one time in my professional career, I was called a 'change agent' and I still think I am a change agent. Our district needs to be open to change and new ideas.

Should public education mainly be a resource for general education or should it take on a more aggressive role in vocational job training?

For vocational job training, we need to build upon current partnerships with the technical colleges and expand our partnerships with local employers. A school district such the West Allis-West Milwaukee School District has limited resources to educate students. We should focus on making sure students have the skills needed for their chosen career or college path.
