Campaign themes

2015

Tonn highlighted the following issues on his campaign website:

So many issues face us. I can help tackle them and make our school district and community a better place.

The federal government is broke, the Illinois government is broke, and District 200 is struggling every year to balance the budget. Our district community must be convinced that we are not wasting 1 minute of instruction time or 1 dollar of taxes as we focus on the education of our students. It will be a challenge to set priorities and allocate resources. Taxes are already high and we do not have unlimited funds.

MAJOR ISSUES FACING DISTRICT 200
Key Financial Issues:

  • District Budgeting/Resource Allocation
  • District Property Tax Base
  • Employee Contracts & Compensation Plan
  • Technology Strategy & Cost
  • Facilities Maintenance & Capital Improvement
  • Enrollment Trends
  • State & Federal Budgets & Deficits
  • Pensions
  • SB 16 Revisions & Resurgence (Now SB 1)
  • Unfunded State & Federal Mandates

Key Academic Issues:

  • Common Core
  • PARCC Testing
  • Next Generation Science Standards
  • Standards Based Education & Grading
  • Virtual/Blended Learning & Flipped Classrooms
  • Early Childhood Education
  • All-Day Kindergarten
  • Academic Performance/College & Career Readiness
  • Social & Emotional Learning
  • Demographic Trends

I am ready to face the challenges.
