I have dedicated my life to serving my community: as a dentist, as a farmer, and as a father and husband. I was raised on a working family farm in the Oley Valley where I learned to live the values of hard work, fair play, and equality. I am running for Congress because the people of Pennsylvania need someone to serve their needs. I am willing to take the tough stances necessary to move our country forward and elevate our region and our communities. As one of the few medical professionals running for Congress, I know our healthcare system inside and out. As a small business owner, I have balanced budgets, made payroll, and created jobs in our region - at my medical practice and on my farm. While serving on the board of the Reading Redevelopment Authority, I worked to successfully redevelop and renovate blighted properties at a brownfield site. As chairman of the Reading Parking Authority, I oversaw public parking facilities and helped to manage public resources effectively for the community - a trait career politicians in Washington could learn from. Through these experiences, I have come to understand that none of us succeed unless we all succeed. This is the attitude that I will bring to Washington to overcome the partisan gridlock and create better opportunities for the people of the 9th District.
  • We need a 50-state single-payer system where doctors, hospitals, and other healthcare providers "compete" in the private marketplace for our public dollars. I'm not going to change how our healthcare is provided, I just want to change the way we pay for it.
  • As a 5th generation farmer, I understand small business values and the hardships of owning a rural business. That's why I will champion District-wide Broadband rollout, provide incentives for hemp processing, and work to bring a cheese and yogurt manufacturing facility to the 9th District to leverage Pennsylvania's surplus milk supply.
  • I know that education isn't a "one-size-fits-all." I will fight to equitably fund our public schools and create quality Pre-K educational programs. I will support trade schools and community colleges so that everyone can have access to an affordable education that's right for them.
Throughout my 36 years as a dentist, I have watched as career politicians have broken our healthcare system. I have seen too many patients who lack sufficient insurance coverage. Too many people in our region have had to make tough choices between rent or medicine, between paying for groceries or seeing a doctor. Too much of our money goes to insurance company and pharmaceutical industry profits. I will pass HR3, a bill that will allow the government to negotiate with the pharmaceutical industry to determine a fair price for medications, and reach across the aisle to find solutions to lower the cost of healthcare.
