Woods highlighted the following issues on his campaign website:

Leading the fight for great schools in East County

Student achievement in the Grossmont District is up for 10 straight years
The Academic Performance Index (API) for the Grossmont District increased by 14 points last year to 769, making the tenth consecutive year of growth. Student groups that experienced the most dramatic growth included students with disabilities (+28), socioeconomically disadvantaged (+38) and Latinos (+30). As districtwide scores improve, more schools are surpassing the state API target. Valhalla, Santana and West Hills are now all exceeding the target.

The Grossmont District is offering exceptional programs across its campuses, including:

-- Project Lead the Way at Santana is a national Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) program that carries admission into San Diego State University if a student completes all the requirements successfully.

-- Grossmont Middle College High School: Students in 11th and 12th grade may attend this program located on the Grossmont College Campus and earn both high school graduation requirements and college course credits.

-- The Matador Early College Program at Mount Miguel High School offers students "at promise" the opportunity to schedule their high school classes early morning so they can attend community college courses in the afternoon and evening to apply to their high school graduation requirements as well as begin their college transcript records.

-- An International Baccalaureate Program at Granite Hills which demonstrates an international, rigorous academic achievement recognized world-wide.

-- Programs in Mandarin Chinese have been added at El Capitan through the Global Language and Leadership Program, including Mandarin Chinese 5/6 Honors, Mandarin 7/8, and AP Mandarin Chinese.

-- The Mac Lab at Valhalla High School visioned and taught by Mr. Mike Skocko is the only gamification course that is Adobe sponsored and supported in California. Working in an all Macintosh computer lab, students learn in a truly "21st Century" way, accomplishing computer coding tasks and online projects to master computer science.[1]
