In the elementary grades, orderly teacher-directed instruction with high levels of student engagement on a high-quality knowledge-based sequential curriculum that is coherent but also gives a teacher flexibility to add their style. In middle and high school, more independent thought and creation of new ways of sizing information and going deeper in areas where the foundation was built in elementary school. The ultimate goal is for a student to graduate as a citizen of character with the knowledge and skills to continue their education or go into the workforce as a citizen with an understanding of the foundations of the American Republic.
Visit every school in the first year. Hold town halls, and make board meetings available on Facebook live.
Working with teacher colleges, creative incentives like discounts on power and better pay to retain high-quality, experienced teachers.
Financial transparency is critical and budgets should be easy to find, easy to read and explain to the public were the money is being spent.
