Campaign themes

2014

Lee's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[1]

Taxes

  • Excerpt: "I will fight to do away with basing our school funding on the local property tax and replacing it with a more equitable formula based on income."

Water

  • Excerpt: "Our water and sewer system were built at the turn of the century, which means our water is filtered through a decayed infrastructure. The system that transports sewage through the City to the treatment plant for the protection of public health and disease prevention. Our sewage treatment system should control water pollution before it is discharged into our waterways."

Infrastructure

  • Excerpt: "Our outdated infrastructure thwarts economic development, inadvertently promoting unemployment and impeding municipal safety initiatives to improve transportation systems, the technological structure for communicative alerts, clean water delivery, modern power lines and safe schools. A failed infrastructure promotes joblessness, crime, poverty, disenfranchisement, mortgage foreclosures, and creates a need for the development of more prisons. We can do better!"

Crime

  • Excerpt: "The Safe Act is not an assault on our Second Amendment right, but a rational vehicle for getting guns off our streets, out of the hands of children and the mentally ill."

Employment

  • Excerpt: "With economic development at center stage, job readiness, training, creation and increases to minimum wage will stimulate employment and reduce the need for complete reliance public welfare. Opportunities that inspire educational and vocational empowerment will make democratization an attainable and sustainable goal."
