I was born at Illini Hospital in 1966 and graduated from Pittsfield high school in 1985. During my school years I was active in the Independence Hustlers 4H, FFA, Chorus and a Saukette from my sophomore through senior years. My parents raised myself and three other siblings on a family farm in Martinsburg with crops, cattle, hogs, various dogs and cats. My grandparents raised sheep, chickens, peacocks and horses. Pike County and the country that surrounds it carved a work ethic into me that only a farmer‘s daughter would understand. The traits I learned from weeding a garden, bottle feeding baby pigs and baby calves, feeding the hogs and filling the water tanks, helping my father build hog houses for birthing, driving a tractor or bucking bales of straw or hay and bundling up in the cold to stack wood for the woodstove down at the 40 will be forever embedded in the very makeup of my character. After college graduation I moved to Champaign, Illinois. I’ve lived in Taylorville, Illinois; Rensselaer, Indiana; Ogden, Illinois and back to Champaign, Illinois in 1991. I’ve worked for companies such as RCM Productions, Hobbico, Ramada Renaissance, Saint Joseph’s College, Manpower, CS Johnson and CMI Johnson-Ross, Edison Middle School, Champaign Unit SD4, and Christie Clinic. Upon having my two children, I moved back to my hometown where I built a home on family acreage. I have worked at John Wood Swine Mgmt Ctr, Heartland Lodge and Pleasant Hill CUSD3 since February of 2006.
  • My first goal as a Pike County board member would be to enhance the immediate financial stabilization and transparency of our audits, which would include auditing departments and existing contracts to identify waste, redundancy and inefficient spending practices seeking justification of all expenditures from scratch rather than simply adjusting last year’s budgets, ensuring every resident can clearly see how their tax tax dollars are being spent in real time.
  • My second goal would be enriching smart revenue generation and economic growth by focusing on state and federal grants, streamlining permitting to attract new job creators and small businesses which would grow the tax base through economic vitality - not higher taxes; utilizing County assets by conducting an inventory of under utilized properties and assets to explore options for generating new rental income development or sales revenue.
  • I would also strive to implement operational efficiency and long-term planning by exploring shared services, prioritizing core services, such as public safety, infrastructure, maintenance, and crucial human services and work together to develop a five-year capital improvement plan. Lastly, but of no less importance, curbing debt and reviews of contracts and vendor bids while first and foremost, providing the accountability to taxpayers.
I believe counties should live within their means - just like families do. I’m committed to smarter spending, lower taxes, and balanced budgets that protect taxpayers while maintaining the essential services our community depends on.
