Campaign themes
2014
Montanarelli's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[2]/my-positions.html
Term limits
- Excerpt: "I strongly believe in term limits and reducing the size of the legislature. I propose that 12 years is enough time for any representative to serve and I would like to see the legislature reduced in size by 1/3 by the year 2020."
Pension reform
- Excerpt: "New employees should be offered 401k programs through their employers and, over time, the pension program will start to repair itself, hopefully within the next 10 years. If we don’t change the state employee retirement system soon, our taxes will begin going through the roof before we know it."
Property tax reform
- Excerpt: "We need to eliminate the school property tax and replace it with a retail sales tax. It is not possible to eliminate one tax without raising money another way to fund our education system. We also cannot replace property tax with a tax that has a limited base, such as gambling. People with the most disposable income will fund the educational system with the purchases they normally make. I propose that grocery staples and pharmaceuticals would continue to be exempt from the new retail sales tax, as they are now."
Privatization
- Excerpt: "I will vote for privatization of wine and liquor sales in Pennsylvania if the legislature can design the right bill. The privatization must get the Commonwealth out of all sales, wholesale as well as retail."
Marijuana
- Excerpt: "While I fully support the use of medical marijuana, I want to see more research done, especially in the two states--Washington and Colorado--thata have legalized the plant for recreational use."
