Gene Rubinstein was a 2018 independent special election candidate for District 42 of the Wisconsin State Assembly. Rubinstein lost the special election for this seat on June 12, 2018.

A special election for the position of Wisconsin State Assembly District 42 was held on June 12, 2018. The filing deadline for this election was April 17, 2018. A primary election was held on May 15, 2018.[1]
The seat became vacant following Keith Ripp's (R) resignation on December 29, 2017, to serve as an assistant deputy secretary with the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection.[2]
In the Republican primary, Jon Plumer defeated Colleen Locke-Murphy, Darren Schroeder, and Spencer Zimmerman.[3] Plumer defeated Democratic candidate Ann Groves Lloyd and independent candidate Gene Rubinstein in the general election.[4][5]
