Gene Sullins is the District 1 representative on the Cullman County Commission on Education in Alabama. Sullins won re-election in the general election on November 8, 2016. He advanced from the primary election on March 1, 2016, by defeating challenger Patrick Klein (R).[1] He was first elected to the board in 2012.

Three of the seven seats on the Cullman County Schools school board were up for general election on November 8, 2016. There was a primary election for Districts 1 and 3 on March 1, 2016.
District 1 incumbent Gene Sullins (R) and District 3 incumbent James Thompson (R) filed for re-election, while District 5 incumbent Wendy Crider did not file for the election.
Sullins defeated Patrick Klein (R) in the primary election on March 1, 2016. Heath Allbright (R) defeated Thompson, Sam Benefield (R) and Destry Stone (R) in the primary. The District 5 general election featured Wayne Myrex (R) and Laurita Hogland (I). Myrex defeated Hogland, while Sullins and Allbright won without opposition in the general election.[1]
