In 2015, the Washington State Legislature described the function of this committee as outlined below.

The committee also considers issues relating to state information technology projects and the Office of Chief Information Officer, reviews budgets for general government, natural resources and corrections programs and agencies, and considers bills with limited fiscal impact relating to general government, natural resources and corrections.
