A Lifelong Commitment to Annapolis

I first visited Annapolis in 1996 and was immediately taken by its colonial charm and welcoming spirit. A year later, I moved to Maryland, began my career designing residential, commercial, and hospitality spaces, and started my family. Since then, I have lived in Wards 5, 8, and now Ward 1, where my husband and I are raising our four children and three dogs while restoring a 1935 Dutch Colonial. In 2018, I was appointed Ward 1 Commissioner for the City's Art in Public Places Commission and elected Chair the following year. Working with state and local leaders, I helped secure permanent funding for the Commission by dedicating a portion of the Hotel Tax paid by visitors. This ensured our arts programs would no longer face underfunding. During 6 years of service, I managed budgets, organized free public art events and festivals, reviewed grants, and co-led the development of a 10-year Arts Master Plan. These efforts strengthened Annapolis’s cultural life while building strong working relationships with city departments and the Mayor’s Office.

Alongside my public service, I have built a successful career delivering award-winning strategies for clients through innovative, ethical practices. I also served as Secretary and Vice President of the District 30 Democratic Club, where I worked to boost voter turnout in the 2021 election, and was honored with the Sarah Flynn Do Something Democrat Award for my contributions to local elections.
  • Sustainability and Resiliency Annapolis faces unique challenges as a coastal city vulnerable to flooding and environmental change. I will prioritize sustainable development, stronger infrastructure, and expanded transportation options like safe bike lanes, pedestrian access, and cleaner public transit. By investing in resiliency today, we protect our homes, businesses, and quality of life for generations to come.
  • Affordability and Housing The cost of living in Annapolis continues to rise, with housing, property taxes, and assessments burdening residents. I will work to bring forward solutions from other historic cities that generate revenue outside of taxes and parking fees. I will also support zoning reforms and creative housing strategies, such as converting vacant commercial properties into residential units, to increase affordable and “missing middle” housing so families can stay and grow in our community.
  • Accessibility and City Services Every resident deserves efficient, reliable city services. From trash collection to permitting, residents must be able to navigate local government without frustration. I will strengthen communication and collaboration between City Departments and the community, ensuring residents, businesses, and visitors can access services with transparency and ease. Improving accessibility also means expanding safe and inclusive transportation options across the city.
Accountability and Good Governance
Annapolitans deserve leadership that is transparent, solution-driven, and committed to fairness. I will review outdated codes and legislation that no longer serve our city, eliminate inefficiencies, and advocate for practical policies that reflect today’s needs. With six years of experience working alongside City Departments, I know the importance of accountability in government and pledge to use that experience to ensure City Hall works for the people of Annapolis. .
I believe the most important characteristics and principles for an elected official include integrity and ethics, strong communication and collaboration skills, compassion and inclusivity to serve diverse constituents, accountability for their actions, and the ability to focus on the public interest and common good through open-mindedness and a growth mindset. Effective officials also demonstrate leadership, respect for others' perspectives, and a commitment to collaboration and teamwork.
I believe the core responsibilities of an elected official are legislating, budget adoption, and providing oversight for their constituents. They must also represent by serving in a leadership capacity, working with staff and other officials to set priorities, enact laws, and provide essential services to the community.
A legacy of actions that showed I cared for others and our communities. Annapolis boasts a rich and multifaceted legacy as a historic place with deep roots in American history. Annapolis's Ward 1 has continued to shelter Maryland's state capital through the years and remains proud to be the home of the U.S. Naval Academy. As a resident of Ward 1, I will continue to lift our communities through legacy and sustainable leadership for our future!
Experience can bring valuable skills and knowledge. Officials with prior experience, especially in government, may have a deeper understanding of how policy is made, which can lead to more effective lawmaking. Through prior political experience, officials may build a network of colleagues and stakeholders, which is vital for negotiation, trust, and compromise to advance legislation, and these networks may assist in campaigning. Improving a candidate's chances of winning future elections by increasing.
A combination of leadership and interpersonal skills, such as negotiation, communication, empathy, and teamwork, along with analytical abilities like critical thinking and strategic planning. Technical knowledge, such as understanding budgeting and legislative procedures, and personal qualities like integrity, commitment, and a long-term vision, are also crucial for making difficult decisions, fostering trust with the public, and achieving the city's goals.
General qualities like integrity and communication are important for any alderperson; the uniqueness and importance of the Annapolis Ward 1 alderperson stem directly from the ward's specific characteristics. An effective Ward 1 alderperson must possess a unique blend of historical preservation awareness, business and tourism insight, and environmental knowledge to represent the ward's diverse interests. All skills that I possess.
