I am a mother who wants to get involved in the major decisions that are being made for our children. As the only parent of two elementary school children at LAUSD running for board in district 4, I have a vested interest in advocating for our kids. I am 100% citizen backed and have no ties to Teacher Unions or special interest groups. . If elected, I will advocate for families, and support parent involvement to a degree that has never been done before, from the way we make medical decisions for our kids to how we train our teachers to focus and improve upon our kids learning so they can succeed in college and beyond.
  • .Studies have shown that children made little to no progress during virtual learning, especially in disadvantaged and English Language Learner homes. The Spanish speaking community, which make up about 75% of our district, were hugely affected. Yet, our teacher unions lobbied and achieved one of the longest school closures in the world. This was unopposed by the incumbent in this position and the rest of the board for a very long time. Our board has largely let UTLA manage decisions for our district and this has led to families leaving. Declining enrollments hurt the students that stay. If elected, I will support Superintendent Carvalho in regaining control of public education with kids and families first in mind.
  • School closures and mandates have caused a great deal of suffering and social isolation for our children, turning into an emotional health crisis. I will vote for hiring professional counselors on a part-time or on an as-needed basis, and make student-centered decisions to return a sense of normalcy to our schools. To address the learning loss, we need to use the resources that we have in efficient ways, and involve parents in determining what resources would be best. We must also support children with learning differences with robust resources, tutors, and teachers assistants. Parent input in all of this is critical and I am committed to involving parents to make sure that our limited resources are used in the best way possible.
  • I will strive to make campuses safer for children by maintaining our campus officers, not downsizing. The incumbent in board district 4 voted to defund our campus police and that measure passed. On campus safety has declined as a result. Being a parent of school aged children helps me see the realities of our situation as they impact children and I will not fall into the trap of trending social media campaigns. I will use common sense and protect our most vulnerable.
I am very interested in public health policy and the measure that were taken to address the Covid-19 outbreak,
I admire people who have persevered in the face of hardship and come out stronger.
First and foremost I am not a politician. I love learning and children, and care about their future and that of our country. Special interest groups have tried to use them as pawns to achieve their goals, and often our school board has given in to the politicization of children. I am running to advocate for them and their families.
When I turned 11, I fled an oppressive regime and moved to the United States with my family. I did not speak a word of English when I arrived, but with hard work and perseverance, I was able to get a good education. In 1988 I graduated with a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from UCLA and obtained the Christina Memorial Award for "Most Outstanding Electrical Engineering Student", Later, I obtained a Masters in Business Administration with honors from USC.
As an immigrant and through my path of living in multiple countries, I was able to develop a better understanding of people with various cultures and backgrounds.
I worked as an Electrical Engineer for Xerox Corporation for 2 years before I went to USC to obtain my MBA.
The primary role of a school board member is to strive to get the best education for students in a safe and pleasant atmosphere. This is a non-partisan position, and the board member should not be serving the political agendas of Teacher Unions or special interest groups.
