Georganna T. Sinkfield (born February 11, 1943 in Florence County, South Carolina) is a former Democratic member of the Georgia House of Representatives, representing District 60 from 1983-2011. On April 30, 2010, she filed papers to launch her candidacy for the statewide office of secretary of state, the seat occupied by Republican Brian Kemp, who had been appointed to the position following the resignation of gubernatorial candidate Karen Handel.[1] After placing second with slightly over 22 percent of the vote in the Democratic primary election on Tuesday, July 20, 2010, Sinkfield pulled off an upset and officially secured the party nomination in the runoff contest three weeks later.[2] Three months later, however, she went on to lose to Republican incumbent Brian Kemp in the general election after receiving 39 percent of the vote.
