I am a husband and father of three boys. I was born and raised in Inglewood Ca and I live in the community where I was raised. I attended public school my entire life. I graduated valedictorian from Morningside High School then Phi Beta Kappa and Summa Cum Laude from UCLA. I then went on to UCLA Law School where my concentration of study was Critical Race Studies. Upon graduation I began working as a public defender and I have been there for 15 years as a trial attorney. I have been in court everyday now for 15 years. I currently act as the deputy in charge of a small unit that is dedicated to clearing the criminal records of our unhoused neighbors.
  • I believe in a restorative justice model. For the last 50 years the State of California has built 23 prisons. For context we have only built one college in that time. If putting people in prison was a true solution to public safety then Los Angeles would be the safest place on the planet. We have the largest jail system on earth. Voters and legislators have made it clear that now is the time for change and I want to apply the law as it currently stands.
  • Alternatives to incarceration is not just a buzz word. I have dedicated 15 years of my career to finding community based solutions to the problems of my clients. The overwhelming majority of which are poor, suffer from mental health issues and/or are addicted to drugs. Finding ways to address those issues is the key to public safety not just putting people in cages.
  • Now is the time to modernize the court. Many of the systems that are being used are archaic. It is well past time to update our systems.
Criminal Justice Reform and education policy are two areas that I am committed to staying abreast of
Knowledge, integrity and compassion are a few of the characteristics that are key to success as a judge.
If elected I would be the first African American man to be elected judge in the county of Los Angeles as a public defender. That would be quite a legacy in and of itself
