Born and raised in the South Bay of Los Angeles, George Barks is no stranger to serving the public. In 1974 he ran for City Council of Hermosa Beach and served for twelve years. He was mayor of Hermosa in 1975, 1980 and 1985. Many of the projects and proposals he implemented shaped the South Bay as we know it today!

After his terms in local government he went on to be elected President of the Hermosa Beach Kiwanis Club and President of the Hermosa Beach Sister City Association. For his lifetime achievements George was awarded Hermosa Beach Chamber of Commerce 2018 Man of the Year.

George is known for his ability to reach across the aisle to find common ground that both sides can agree on. He is well-liked by his community and while people may not always agree with his politics or opinions they cannot help but respect his commitment and dedication to consider all angles of an issue. His personal history in local politics shows his commitment to community. George is a compassionate connector who continues to work tirelessly to make the Beach Cities and the South Bay a better place to live.

Vote for George Barks for California State Assembly District 66! We can do better for the residents of the South Bay.

  • Vote for George Barks if you want someone who will listen, find common ground and get things done for the residents of District 66.
  • We need more integrity and common sense politicians in our state government, not politicians that are focused on getting reelected. Why should you vote for George Barks? Because he is a common sense, critical thinker and his focus is on what is best for the people of his district.
  • When George is elected he will focus on crime, homelessness and gas prices. If you want change, vote for George Barks!
When elected, George will work hard to accomplish the following:

-Short term, suspend the gas tax for one year.

-Long term, support eventual transition to electric vehicles, and support alternative energy sources, including solar, wind & nuclear.

-Continue support for police, fire, and first responders.

-Grow the tax base by increasing support for small businesses.

-Address homelessness compassionately and realistically by redirecting resources to mental health, substance abuse and addiction treatment.

-Hold the line on new taxes, in fact reduce taxes and improve our water supply, funding these priorities by redirecting high speed rail funding.

-Improve K-12 education with increased funding and support for parental involvement.

-Ensure the benefits of the original Proposition 13 for the next generation.
George believes an elected official should be a good listener who can carefully consider all viewpoints before taking a position on an issue. When proposing or voting on an issue, an elected official should do so with integrity.
George would like to leave the South Bay a better place for future generations.
George believes it's beneficial to build relationships. Building relationships helps create bipartisan policies.
What do you get when cross an elephant and a rhino?

You get a hell-if-I-know.
Compromise is the basis of George's political philosophy. It's his opinion that most modern day politicians are missing two things; the ability to listen and the ability to compromise. We can't let the best get in the way of better. If we are going to get anything done in the gridlock of government there has to be compromise. Without compromise there is suffering. When George is elected he plans to build bipartisan coalitions, to examine the issues, and discuss ways that we can push through policies that benefit the people. George believes we need to listen, find common ground, compromise, and find solutions that will make things better for the people.
