Economy

The son of blue-collar business owners, George knows the effects of high taxes and over-regulation on small businesses and the families and employees behind them. George will work to reduce the tax burden on businesses to stimulate job creation and will fight needless regulation to encourage private businesses to call Virginia home. This is especially relevant in the 31st District as we move to decrease the state economy’s reliance on the federal government.

Taxes
George will fight to keep taxes as low as possible. George will leverage his financial background to oppose excessive spending and make sure that each dollar collected from our residents serves a specific purpose. This includes working to find innovative ways to ensure that increases in property assessments at the local level do not necessarily translate to an increased tax burden for our residents.

Military & Veterans
The members of our nation’s military and the Veterans that preceded them provide the foundation for our freedom in this country. The Commonwealth is home to over 780,000 Veterans, and this number will continue to grow over the next few years. Our Veterans have made tremendous sacrifices in their service of this country, and we should make every effort to ensure that they are well-equipped to return to civilian life. This includes both opportunities for higher education and career planning to ensure that they have the right skills and access to the appropriate networks as they enter the workforce.

Education
Virginia has a rich history of providing quality public education for K-12 and beyond. To ensure that we continue along this path, we must continue to address issues presented by the ever-changing landscape upon which this system resides. One topic of emphasis, for example, is standardized testing – a majority of Virginia residents believe that increased standardized testing is detrimental to student performance. George will work to align the objectives of Virginia’s Standards of Learning with those of individual schools and educators to ensure that standardized tests are helping our students succeed.

Public Safety
George Forakis is a proponent of strict enforcement of laws against violent crimes and will use his experience in working with the Law Enforcement community to make Virginia neighborhoods safer. He supports Virginia’s Capital Punishment laws.

2nd Amendment Rights
An avid outdoorsman and life-long hunter, George has extensive experience in the responsible handling and use of firearms. He will work to protect against any intrusions to your right to keep and bear arms.[2][3]
