Hollowell was defeated in the 2011 election for Mississippi Senate District 22. He defeated Mala Brooks in the primary on August 2, 2011. Incumbent Eugene Clarke ran unopposed in the Republican primary. Hollowell lost to Clarke in the general election on November 8, 2011.[1]
