George Jay Quist

George J. Quist is a judge for the 17th Circuit Court in Michigan. He was appointed by Republican Governor Rick Snyder on May 13, 2015.[1] He ran unopposed for election to his seat in 2016.[2]
He was previously a judge for the Kent County Probate Court from 2012 to 2015.[3][4]
Education
Quist received his undergraduate degree from Hope College and his J.D. from George Washington University.[4]
Career
Quist spent nine years as a civil litigator in Grand Rapids after he graduated from law school. Before taking the bench, he worked as an administrative law judge and magistrate for twelve years. Quist was also the director of employment services for the Michigan Administrative Hearing System and chief magistrate for the Worker's Compensation Board of Magistrates.[4]
Elections
2016
Michigan held general elections for local judicial offices on November 8, 2016. A primary election occurred on August 2, 2016. The candidate filing deadline for incumbents was March 21, and the deadline for non-incumbents was April 19.[5] Incumbent Paul Denenfeld and incumbent George Jay Quist were unopposed in the 17th Circuit general election (2 open seats).[2]

2012
Quist was re-elected to the probate court after running unopposed in 2012.[6][7]
