Having served as a public-school educator for 40 years as both a classroom teacher and campus principal, I seek to continue service and leadership in Texas education. I graduated with an undergraduate degree in history, government and education from Stephen F. Austin State University and completed my master's degree in educational administration from the University of North Texas.
  • Provide a safe and inclusive environment for all students including a state curriculum that marginalizes none.
  • Preserve local control of public education and ensure a free and efficient public education system.
  • Listen and represent the needs and values of our constituents.
1. Fundamental to the safety/security of our students is an inclusive and accessible curriculum that represents all students.

2. The mission of public education must be centered on raising student performance and broadening the path of college, career and military readiness.

3. I believe in the philosophy and ideal of representative democracy. Service must be centered on representing the voice of the people.
The State Board of Education leads the development and implementation of curriculum for Texas public schools. The board has the constitutional mandate to ensure a free and efficient education for all.
Abraham Lincoln- humble, story-teller, strong connection with the people he served, champion for the abolition of slavery
Elected officials must believe in the ideal and philosophy of representative democracy. Service to our constituents is paramount to preserving our system of government.
-We must listen and understand the needs and values of constituents
-The safety and security of the people is the most important role of elected officials.
Improved the quality, accessibility and inclusiveness of public education for all students.
The state curriculum must be inclusive and accessible for all I believe in the need for diversity on the State Board of Education including and does not marginalize any group of students.
I believe that the membership of the State Board of Education must be diverse including leadership from members whose careers were dedicated to public school service.
The challenges facing school-age children today are profound and rapidly changing. The State Board of Education must be represented by members whose careers span the depth and breadth of these challenges.

Campaign website

King’s campaign website stated the following:

Curriculum Standards
Schools must be safe, inclusive environments for ALL students. Fundamental to this is a curriculum that embraces all, creates equity and access for all, and marginalizes no one.

Constitutional Mandate
Article 7 of the Texas Constitution declares that our state government has the responsibility to “establish and maintain an efficient system of free public schools.” I want to lead in the effort to secure this constitutional premise.

Local Control
Local control of public education has long been a hallmark of Texas communities. We must preserve this tradition in the face of challenges to our local school districts.

Board Priorities
Our nation was built on a system of representative democracy. The State Board of Education must listen and represent the needs and values of our constituents including the eight million school age children in our state.

Our Mission
Preparing students for success in life is the mission of our schools. In this increasingly complex world, schools must continue to evolve in pursuit of this important mission.[2]
