George L. Kennedy, III was the South Carolina State Auditor. Kennedy assumed office in 2015. Kennedy left office on January 23, 2025.

Kennedy was appointed as the South Carolina State Auditor in 2015. He replaced Richard Gilbert Jr. in October 2015.[1][2]

Kennedy is a certified public accountant. From 1988, until he became state auditor in 2015, he was a partner at the Elliott Davis public accounting firm in Greenville, South Carolina. In that position he provided accounting services for governments, educational institutions and nonprofits. Prior to employment at Elliott Davis, from May 1986 until December 1987, Kennedy was a supervisor at the Milliken & Company textile firm in Spartanburg, South Carolina.[3][4]

Kennedy is a native of South Carolina. In 1986 he graduated from Clemson University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting.[5][6]
