I am a conservative and a life-long Republican. I am a small businessman and for the past 23-years I have been a real estate broker in Southwestern Michigan, which has given me a deep understanding of our area. I have also been deeply involved in our community and have demonstrated leadership as President of two area not for profit organizations. I recognize the daily challenges that we all face, and my objective is to focus on improving the everyday lives for the people of Southwestern Michigan. I have a reputation for getting things done and for leaving things better than I found them!
  • Lower Taxes will give you more control over your life, more money to spend and a better work/life balance for you and your family.
  • Improving access to high-speed internet service is critical to giving kids the best opportunity to learn and businesses the best opportunity to thrive.
  • Expanding vocational and technical educational opportunities in our schools will help to prepare our non-college bound kids for rewarding careers .
Healthy economies make for healthy communities. My objective is to make Michigan a destination to attract new businesses to our area and to allow existing businesses to thrive. Low taxes and an improved business environment are key to achieving this goal.

The purpose of a limited government to provide organization to our society so to allow free enterprise to thrive. Self-reliance is an important characteristic for success in America, and attaining self-reliance is the key to entering the middle class and beyond.

An orderly society is dependent upon providing a safe environment. I unequivocally support our men and women in blue and prosecuting those who prey upon our society.

Lake Michigan and the rural character of our area provides a desirable environment to live work and play and are a primary attraction for visitors to our area. I have a demonstrated commitment to protecting these assets and maintaining our quality of life.

I will work towards improving the accountability in our government, as it is important tool for controlling the size of our government and ensuring that your tax dollars are wisely spent.

The integrity of the ballot is important to maintaining faith in our democratic republic. I will support any measure that ensures the sanctity of the ballot and will push for any measure that will result in free and fair elections. One person/one vote is the cornerstone to the credibility of our governance.
Ronald Reagan is my personal hero. What I admire about him was the clarity of his message, his ability to communicate and his pragmatic approach to moving things forward.
"Free to Choose", the book and 1980's TV series on Public Television made a formative impact on me.
Great analytical skills combined with great listening skills are necessary in order to gather information, process information and to formulate an opinion on any matter. The job is to represent the people, so it is important to check one's ego at the door and be prepared to take direction from others.
In my real estate career for the past 23-years, I have been an advocate for my clients and have been able to represent their best interests in hundreds of transactions. I have also provided a high, personalized, level of customer service.

This experience, combined with a curious mind and strong analytical skills has prepared me perfectly to represent the people of Southwestern Michigan as their state representative.
Representing the will of the voters of my district is the most important responsibility for this office. With that comes the ability to educate and build a consensus with my constituents on any particular issue. Communications is a two-way street, and two-way interactions with people are an important way to proceed.

Helping people to navigate the complexities of dealing with a state agency is paramount, too.
In my professional and volunteer activities, I have developed a reputation for being forthright in my dealings and having the ability to get things done. I have a habit of leaving things better than I found them and I would like to extend these traits to my work as a state representative.
My oldest remembrance is the Russian Missile Crisis. I was 3 1/2 at the time. While I didn't have the ability to fully appreciate the dynamics of the situation, I understood that the people around me were concerned and upset.
Mowing lawns was my first job. It taught me the value of work and helped me to develop desirable work-related skills.
I used to be shy and the primary reason for me to go into sales was to overcome this deficiency. I am self-aware and when I recognize an area for personal improvement, I take corrective action.
Considering the long-term best interests of the people should take precedence over currying favor with one's political base. I believe that Governor Snyder and his relationship with the Legislature is a strong example of this principle.
Increasing the population and economic activity are vital to the long-term viability of a state. When you consider that the 10 fastest growing states are ones with no or low state income taxes, and that the states that are losing population and businesses have high state and local taxes, that is something to consider when planning for the future.
I do not see any benefit to a unicameral state legislature and prefer a process where important issues are carefully and deliberately considered.
It can, but it really depends upon the particular individual. With over 40-years of business and volunteer experience, I know that I have developed the skills and the basis of knowledge necessary to effectively represent the people.
Absolutely. Relationships are built on trust, and it takes trust to persuade people to support your position. Relationships and trust are the foundation of our representative republic.
The horse is already out of the barn on this question. I favor the legislative process over the redistricting commission as I believe that the legislative process more directly represents the will of the people. I'm not sure what the objective of the redistricting commission was and would find it ironic if the people who supported the concept of the redistricting commission were also the same people who wanted to get money out of politics.
I would love to serve on the Appropriations Committee. In business as in government, properly allocating resources is the key to developing a plan and a roadmap for the future success of any organization.
Not really. I am more interested in considering all points of view in order to establish a basic understanding of an issue. I have found that this approach leads to making better decisions.
I believe that a governor should be granted short-term emergency powers in order to immediately react to a true emergency situation, but that power should be short-lived and that any extension of said powers need to be approved by the people. By nature, the consensus of the people is more informed than that of any certain individual.
I do. I believe that it was Ronald Reagan who once said something to the effect that if you can get 80% of what you want, that you should take the deal. The US Constitution established a government that is designed for incremental change. Steady improvement towards attaining one's goals is a much more pragmatic approach to governance as opposed to promoting radical change.
