Britton is a 1963 graduate of Marshall High School. He has a bachelor's degree from Southwest Texas State University and master's degree from Our Lady of the Lake University. He taught math at Jay High School from 1967 until he retired in 2002 and math department chairman. He has two grown children.[1]

In the District 1 race, challenger Joseph Medina defeated incumbent George Lynn Britton Jr. Gerald Brian Lopez, incumbent M’Lissa Chumbley and incumbent Bobby Blount were unopposed in Districts 2, 3 and 4, respectively.
