  • In 2011, George Pataki established No American Debt, an advocacy group urging Republican presidential candidates to address deficit reduction.[2] In an interview on FOX News with Sean Hannity discussing the organization, Pataki called the Bowles-Simpson and Ryan fiscal plans "bold."[3]
  • While governor of New York, Pataki increased spending by 79.5 percent from $63.3 billion to $113.6 billion, and debt by 61.3 percent from $31 billion to $50 billion.[4] In his 2005 budget address, Pataki suggested the budget be considered in the environment of "the national recession, September 11th, and the Wall Street decline."[5] The events of September 11, 2001, had a significant impact on New York state's fiscal health with an estimated cost of $83 million.[6]
