George R. Villegas (Democratic Party) was a judge of the New York Supreme Court 12th Judicial District. He assumed office in 2008. He left office in 2021.

Villegas (Democratic Party) ran for re-election for judge of the New York Supreme Court 12th Judicial District. He won in the general election on November 2, 2021.

Education

Villegas received his B.A. degree from the City University of New York, Baruch College in 1984 and his J.D. degree from the State University of New York at the Buffalo School of Law in 1987.[1][2]

Career

Villegas began his career as a staff attorney for the Legal Aid Society's Criminal Defense Division. Prior to his judicial career, he also worked: as an attorney and administrator for The Osbourne Association; Chief of Staff for the District Office of NY State Sen. Efrain Gonzalez, Jr.; Associate Director of Legal Affairs for the Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center; attorney for the Law Office of George R. Villegas; for the NY State Senate; and as a private practice lawyer.

Villegas began his judicial career in 2003 when he was elected to the New York City Civil Court of Bronx County. He served on this court through 2007 and was an acting justice of the Bronx County Supreme Court from 2004 to 2007. In 2008, he was elected to a full term on this court.[1]
