George C. Richards is a former Charlotte County judge of the 20th Judicial Circuit Court in Florida. He was appointed by former Governor Charlie Crist on August 11, 2009, to replace the late Lynne E. Dailey. He was re-elected in 2012.[1][2][3][4]

Richards announced his resignation from his seat on the 20th Judicial Circuit Court on August 7, 2020, in a letter to Gov. Ron DeSantis, citing health reasons. His resignation went into effect on October 2, 2020. [5]

2012 election

Richards ran for re-election on Aug. 14, 2012. He defeated David McElrath with 55.8 percent of the vote.[4][6]

Education

Richards received his A.A. degree from Miami-Dade Community College, his B.A. degree from Barry University, and his J.D. degree from the University of Miami School of Law.[7]

Career

Richards began his career as an assistant state attorney for the 9th Circuit (1994 to 1998) and then for the 13th Circuit (1998 to 2002). He then worked as the Chief Assistant Statewide Prosecutor in Fort Myers until he was appointed to the circuit court in 2009.[1]
