George Smith
George Curtis Smith was a federal judge on senior status with the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio. He joined the court in 1987 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan (R) He assumed senior status on January 1, 2002, and ended his service on April 15, 2020, when he died.[1]
Early life and education
A native of Columbus, Ohio, Smith received his bachelor's degree in 1957 and his J.D. in 1959, both from Ohio State University.[1]

Smith was nominated by President Ronald Reagan on July 1, 1987, to a seat on the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio vacated by Joseph Kinneary. Hearings on Smith's nomination were held before the Senate Judiciary Committee on October 20, 1987, and his nomination was reported by then-U.S. Sen. Joseph Biden (D-Del.) on November 5, 1987. Smith was confirmed by the unanimous consent of the U.S. Senate on November 6, 1987, and he received his commission on November 9, 1987. Smith elected to take senior status beginning on January 1, 2002. His service ended on April 15, 2020, when he died.[1][2] Smith was succeeded on the court by Judge Gregory Frost.
