George Talley
George Talley was a candidate for Seat 5 on the Brentwood Union Free School District Board of Education in New York. He filed to run in the general election on May 19, 2015, but he withdrew from the race on May 11, 2015.[1][2]
Talley was the Seat 3 member of the Brentwood Union Free Board of Education in New York. He was first elected in 2004, and he served on the board for nine years before losing his re-election bid in 2013.[3] Talley ran unsuccessfully for the Seat 1 position in the general election on May 20, 2014.[4]
Talley faced multiple accusations of racial prejudice during his initial three terms in office as a member of the Brentwood Union Free Board of Education. Six district employees filed civil rights violation lawsuits against Talley.[5][6] The lawsuits alleged that Talley and other district officials withheld promotions from minority employees and used racial slurs to describe employees.[7] Talley denied all of the allegations.[8]

Elections
2015
Three of the seven seats on the Brentwood Union Free School District Board of Education were up for general election on May 19, 2015. The elections were separated by specific geographic seats aligned with the district's elementary school attendance areas. These seats did not have titles, but they were considered distinct from one another. Ballotpedia assigned generic titles to the seats up for election to prevent confusion. These seat titles were arbitrary and did not reflect the status or seniority of the board members holding them. Seats 5, 6 and 7, which were held by incumbents Gail Kirkham, Keith Allison and Ana Martinez, respectively, were on the ballot.
Kirkham originally faced two challengers, Ricardo Gomez and George Talley, for her seat, but Talley withdrew from the race on May 11, 2015. His name did not appear on the ballot. Kirkham defeated Gomez to retain her seat on the board.
Allison ran against just one challenger, Daniel Calderon. Calderon was elected to the board.
Martinez did not file to run for re-election, leaving her seat open to a newcomer. Eileen Felix ran unopposed and won that seat.
