Primary: He received 70.2 percent of the vote in the Republican primary on May 21, 2013, defeating Gregory A. Jackson. He also cross-filed as a Democrat and won that primary with 66.2 percent of the vote. 
General: He won without opposition in the general election on November 5, 2013.
