This measure would increase the homestead exemption for totally disabled veterans from a portion of the assessed value to the total assessed value of the home and create a homestead exemption for partially disabled veterans equal to the percentage of the disability rating. The measure would also create a homestead exemption for totally disabled first responders in the amount of the total assessed value and 50% of assessed value for partially disabled first responders.[1]

Path to the ballot
Per Article VII, Section II, Paragraph II(a) of the Georgia Constitution, legislation for property tax exemptions requires a two-thirds vote of each chamber of the Georgia State Legislature, the governor's signature, and voter approval.
