Ballot title

The ballot title for Amendment 30 was as follows:

FOR ratification of amendment to Article VIII, Section V, Paragraph I, of the Constitution of Georgia, by adding new paragraphs authorizing the General Assembly to pass a special Act or Acts to merge the existing school system of the City of Cochran and the existing school district in the County of Bleckley lying outside the corporate limits of said city into one school district or system co-extensive with the limits of said county and to provide for a seven member County Board of Education elected by the Grand Jury, and for the appointment of the County School Superintendent by the Board.

AGAINST ratification of amendment to Article VIII, Section V, Paragraph I, of the Constitution of Georgia, by adding new paragraphs authorizing the General Assembly to pass a special Act or Acts to merge the existing school system of the City of Cochran and the existing school district in the County of Bleckley lying outside the corporate limits of said city into one school district or system co-extensive with the limits of said county and to provide for a seven member County Board of Education elected by the Grand Jury, and for the appointment of the County School Superintendent by the Board.

A two-thirds (66.67%) vote is required during one legislative session for the Georgia State Legislature to place an amendment on the ballot. That amounts to a minimum of 120 votes in the Georgia House of Representatives and 38 votes in the Georgia State Senate, assuming no vacancies.
