Georgia: Presiding Justice of the Georgia Supreme Court George Carley was sworn in as the court's Chief Justice on Tuesday May 29, 2012.[1][2] Carley will only serve as Chief Justice through July, when he is retiring from the bench.
His short stint as Chief Justice is to serve as a farewell and sign of appreciation; Carley will retire with the honor of being the first person to have served as presiding and chief judge on the Georgia Court of Appeals and the Georgia Supreme Court.[1] Carol Hunstein, the previous Chief, proposed the two-month switch. She will resume her post as Chief Justice after Carley's retirement.[1]
