Georgia legislature gives state archives shot in the arm
April 15, 2013
Atlanta, Georgia: The Georgia State Legislature gave some much-needed assistance to the Georgia State Archives before the legislature adjourned last month. The biggest change is the transfer of the archive from the Secretary of State's Office to the Board of Regents of the University System, aligning it with the system's goals of "scholarship, research, and public service." Additionally, the legislature approved a $300,000 budget increase for the archives, allowing it to re-hire a number of staff lost to previous budget cuts and allow it to be open to the public more frequently.[1]
