2010
The Transparency in Government Act (SB 389) was signed into law in June 2010 by Gov. Sonny Perdue (R). State Sen. Jim Butterworth (R) authored the legislation with the goal of promoting further transparency and savings in government. The Transparency in Government Act enhanced reporting requirements on the state's public information website.
2009
- House Bill 171[1] would exempt individuals' names and contact information from public records.
- Senate Bill 26 would exempt email distribution lists kept by police and fire departments from Open Records requests.[2]
- Senate Bill 124[3] would require that social security numbers be redacted from public documents.
2008
- Georgia Senate Bill 300 (2008) would require the creation of an online database detailing state expenditures by January 1, 2009.[4]
- The Transparency in Government Initiative website was launched in August 2008.
