I am a Falcon Heights resident of 35 years, scientist, mother, grandmother, wife, outdoor adventurer and conservationist, gardener, sourdough baker, and voracious reader.

My work on the Community Engagement Commission, Community Conversations on Policing, Corridor Planning, and more recently, the Climate Action Team, State Fair Task Force, and the Environment Commission, alongside dedicated residents and our excellent staff and Councilmembers, has helped improve safety in our city and has provided a strong framework for moving forward together in a sustainable, equitable future.

  • I am a scientist and data-driven with a heart. In my career as Professor in evolution and ecology at the U. Minnesota, I honed a key skill that will serve me well as a Council member – putting together information and resources to address complex problems that may not have an easy answer.
  • I work tirelessly for the greater good. I am well-prepared and bring my focus, experience, and preparation to every meeting. When tackling difficult issues such as policing, development, or the impacts of climate change, I want to hear from all residents even though we may not agree.
  • I am confident. Together, we can build a sustainable and equitable community that is fiscally sound, using tax and assessment resources responsibly and creating innovative non-tax funding sources.
  • Responsible Growth
– I will use information-based decision making to help ensure that development fiscally and environmentally responsible. I will work to plan new development to address housing needs, enhance green and garden spaces, and incorporate goals of the Climate Action Plan to reduce energy costs and support healthy living.
  • Accountable Government – I will be present and prepared for all meetings and responsive to citizens. I will do the background work to understand critical issues, and discuss those issues with residents one-on-one. I will focus on limiting property tax increases by actively seeking new opportunities for non-tax revenue.
  • Safe, Friendly Neighborhoods – Neighbors helping neighbors, one block or building at a time. Work with our SAPD with regular reporting and analysis of policing data, encourage Night-To-Unite events and community liaisons.
  • I am passionate about making information-based decisions and involving informed citizens in that decision making. I walk the talk - previously, I joined Council members in canvassing our city to gain citizen input regarding our policing contract. Currently, while door knocking, I am engaging residents in discussions on the golf course development, property taxes and revenue streams, and issues they feel important such as public safety, housing costs, and schools.
    * Transparency - citizens deserve to know where I stand on issues, and the actions I have taken or advocated.
    • Responsibility - come prepared to every meeting or task, participate in Council meetings with integrity.
    • Information-based decision making - assemble the information, communicate information to citizens so that they may make decisions.
    • Responsive - actively recruit, listen to, and engage citizen feedback. Be willing to compromise.
    • Courage of conviction - make decisions for the greater good and stick to them.
*Be pro-active and prepared for decisions by gathering relevant information and taking initiatives.
  • Give fair credit to other's work.
  • I filed Multiple Listing Service cards for my father's real estate business while in middle school. I was fascinated by the variety of housing and factors that affected their prices.
Hard to say because there are so many favorites but currently, The Last Report on the Miracle at Little No Horse by Louise Erdrich.
Yes, and Falcon Heights has many opportunities for obtaining that experience in commissions and task forces.
