Gerald J. Whalen is a judge for the 4th Department of the New York Supreme Court Appellate Division. He assumed office in 2012. His current term ends on December 31, 2027.
Whalen (Democratic Party) is also a judge of the New York Supreme Court 8th Judicial District. He assumed office on January 1, 2006. His current term ends on December 31, 2033.
Whalen (Democratic Party, Republican Party, Conservative Party, Working Families Party, Independence Party) ran for re-election for judge of the New York Supreme Court 8th Judicial District. He won in the general election on November 5, 2019.
Education
Whalen received his B.A. degree from Canisus College in 1979 and his J.D. degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Law in 1983.[1]
Career
Whalen began his career in 1984 as an associate of the law firm of Offermann, Fallon, Mahoney & Cassano. He became a partner of that firm in 1988 and worked in that capacity until 1993. He then worked as a partner of Williams, Stevens, McCarville & Frizzell, P.C. from 1993 to 2001 and a partner of Hiscock & Barclay, LLP from 2001 to 2005. From 2002, he also served on the New York State Supreme Court's 8th Judicial District Character & Fitness Committee. He was elected to the Supreme Court in 2005.[2]
