Biography
Lebovits graduated from Carleton University (B.A.), the University of Ottawa Law School (LL.L.), Tulane University School of Law (M.C.L.) and New York University School of Law (LL.M. in criminal justice).[1][2] Before becoming a judge, Lebovits was a law clerk for a justice of the New York Supreme Court, Criminal Term, in New York County and a trial lawyer with The Legal Aid Society, Criminal Defense Division, also in New York County.
Lebovits first became a judge in 2001, joining the New York City Housing Court and serving on the court until 2010. He was elected to the New York City Civil Court in 2010 and subsequently appointed to the New York City Criminal Court in 2011. Lebovits was then reassigned to the New York City Civil Court in 2012.[3] Lebovits was appointed acting justice on the New York County Supreme Court, Civil Term in 2015.[4]
