Geraldo Alicea
Geraldo Alicea was a Democratic member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives. He represented the Sixth Worcester from 2007 to 2011. He was defeated in the May 10, 2011 special election.
Alicea is a member of the Charlton Democratic Town Committee.[1]
The general election race between Alicea and Peter Durant (R) was declared a tie and a new election was called.[2] Superior Court Judge Richard Tucker ruled that one absentee ballot that had been discarded should count for Alicea, thus creating a tie at 6,587 votes each. Durant remained in office until a special election could be held.[2] The special election was held May 10, 2011, where Alicea was defeated by Peter Durant.[3]

Alicea defeated Democratic challenger, Joanne Powell, in the April 12 special primary.[4] However, he was defeated by his November opponent, Peter Durant, in the special election. Besides the race's original contenders, Robert Cirba and Peter Boria also ran as independents. Although neither was in strong contention for the seat, each garnered more than the 56 vote margin of victory.[5]
2010
Alicea ran for re-election to the Worcester seat in 2010. He had no primary opposition. As of February 2011, a Massachusetts judge ruled the latest re-count of the November 2, 2010 race a tie. A new election was set for May 10, 2011, with a primary to take place on April 12, 2011. According to the Massachusetts Constitution, Alicea occupied the Sixth Worcester seat until a new election took place.[6]
2008
On November 4, 2008, Alicea won re-election to the Massachusetts House of Representatives, Sixt Worcester, defeating opponent Ronald Chernisky (R).[7]
Alicea raised $101,747 for his campaign while Chernisky raised $57,820.[8]
