Biography
Gerrie Schipske was born in Long Beach, California. She earned an associate degree from Fullerton Community College in 1971, a bachelor's degree from the University of California, Irvine, in 1973, and a law degree from the Pacific Coast University School of Law in 1989. Her career experience includes working as an administrative/regulatory attorney. Schipske has authored seven published books on the history of Long Beach, is a former faculty member at CSULB, and has taught public administration, health care administration, and health care law and ethics.[1]

Damon Dunn and Robert Garcia advanced past Bonnie Lowenthal, Doug Otto, Eric (Donald) Rock, Gerrie Schipske, Jana Shields, Mineo Gonzalez, Richard Camp, and Steven Mozena in the primary. Garcia defeated Dunn in the general election.[2][3][4]

My name is Gerrie Schipske. I am a native of Long Beach and have practiced law for over 32 years – winning numerous cases at the state and federal levels. In 1995, I was sworn into the United States Supreme Court Bar and honored that Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg officiated at my ceremony. Following the Supreme Court swearing-in, I returned to Long Beach and worked in government, non-profit and business organizations providing legal and legislative counsel. I was named by the President to the U.S. Attorney General’s National Advisory Council on Violence Against Women because of my work here in Long Beach to change how sexual assault and domestic violence cases were handled by the Long Beach Police Department.
I am the ONLY candidate for City Attorney who:
- Has more than 32 years of legal, legislative, and administrative experience at every level of government and private industry.
- Was honored at The White House by the President as a “Champion of Change for Open Government” for 8 years on the City Council.
- Stood up for Long Beach taxpayers and fought the illegal surcharge put on water rates. My legal team won and now the City must return over $30 million dollars.

- Anti-Corruption; to ensure that Long Beach City government is open, transparent, and accountable, not to mention ethical.
- Fiscal Responsibility and Accountability: to ensure that every tax dollar is spent effectively. I will roll back the City Attorney's excessive salary of $319,000 which is the highest salary of any elected official in California. I will also provide a public accounting the excessive outside legal counsel costs for a department that has 25 full time attorneys.
- Aggressive, Pro-Active Risk Management: to prevent not payout claims we need to utilize Enterprise Risk Management to fully assess and correct our liabilities.

Educate City elected officials and employees concerning open meeting laws, public records act, campaign finance law and the consequences of violation.
Aggressively assist in proactive risk management to prevent claims instead of just paying them. Assess causes and remedies to prevent future recurrences.
