Candidate Connection

Gil Armendariz participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on July 11, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and Gil Armendariz's responses follow below.[1]

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

1) I would initiate the revamping of the funding laws currently in place for the education system in Colorado. As it stands the over-lapping laws and system of mill levies to circumvent the laws create a legislative knot that is failing on multiple levels. Now is the time to address this and establish a framework that will set the baseline once and for all for proper funding for our Education System in Colorado.

2) Creating a plan for long term drought and environmental stewardship to insure safe air, clean water, and the preservation of lands for all of Colorado would be another key goal. A zero-carbon footprint should be defined to guide Colorado to a healthy future. One example is to allow for the cultivation of hemp by Colorado farms; this and the associated products derived from this crop would add another revenue stream to bolster our Colorado farms. The creation of new businesses using hemp derivatives would provide new markets and new opportunities in Colorado. Just one small step to move our state into the future and adapt to the challenges we now face.
3) A public option for health care insurance is important on many levels. Private insurance costs continue to rise as the insurance companies have the directive to create profits. In this vein, insurance companies have no incentive to insure the sick, elderly, or others with chronic conditions. The expansion of Medicare or a system like it, is the sensible approach for Colorado, making this a public option, not mandatory directive. It takes the burden of private health insurance off the ledgers of business allowing business to use this revenue for expansion and better pay for employees. It is well documented that in other developed countries the social health care systems provide care that is at least equal, if not better, to the health care system in the United States and typically, at half the cost. Colorado, given its strong economics, can do the same. I would advocate for smarter government that operates to meet the needs of Colorado. My pledge is for responsible, transparent, and ethical government that represents the will of Colorado citizens.[2][3]

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?

Armendariz did not reply to this question.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[3]

Ballotpedia also asked the candidate a series of optional questions. Gil Armendariz answered the following:

What qualities do you possess that would make you a successful officeholder?

My career spanned 30 years and 2 months with the merged corporate company that was Mountain Bell/Southwestern Bell/SBC/At&t. The first assignment as records clerk ended as a Sales Engineer II supporting the Fortune 500 Corporations in the At&t Global Market space, with approximately $357 million dollars per year in contract sales. I attended 1,927 classroom hours of telecommunications training that required an 85% score to pass. I lived adaptability and creative engineering which can be used to work on the challenges that face Colorado on many levels.[3]
