Biography

Gillian Battino was born in Athens, Ohio. She earned a bachelor's degree from John Carroll University in 1992. She earned a graduate degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 2011. She earned an M.D. from the Ohio State University College of Medicine in 1996. Battino is the director of Rad-AID Latin America. Battino is affiliated with the NAACP Milwaukee branch, American College of Radiology, Wisconsin Medical Society, and Radiologic Society of North America.

I am a mother, wife, guardian, physician, Wisconite and public health advocate. As a woman and prior small business owner, I understand the challenges that small businesses who are the face of our resilient economy. And as a mother to a diverse family, I value access to a quality public education.

• Protecting the financial security of the disabled community through the ABLE savings plan.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Healthcare; Education, Climate Crisis, Environmental Justice, Reproductive Justice, Criminal Justice reform and Marijuana Legalization

What qualities does this office possess that makes it a unique and important part of the state government and legal system?

This office provides an opportunity for the economic security for all Wisconsinites regardless of political affiliation. It also allows the officeholder to invest in commonsense progressive priorities.

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?

My mother.

Fiscal watchdog- advocate for economic security of all Wisconsinites.

What legacy would you like to leave?

Inspire women and the youth to be brave and to have hope for change and progress in the most challenging times.

What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?

Jimmy Carter winning the presidency. I was 6 years old.

What is something that has been a struggle in your life?

My father died while I was nearly two years old. This created significant financial economic stress and insecurity for my mother, sister and I. This is why, that now that I have the means and opportunity to give back through providing healthcare and educational opportunity to underserved communities in Latin America, I do.

What responsibilities of this office do you personally consider the most important?

Provide for the economic security for working families, veterans, retirees, the disability community and children and students. Provide for equal opportunity and a more just future.

Are there any little-known powers or responsibilities held by this office that you believe more people should be aware of?

This office has funded over $571 million in community projects across the state, from parks to small businesses to schools.
