Ginny Deerin was a Democratic candidate for South Carolina Secretary of State in the 2014 elections.[1] Ginny Deerin lost the general election on November 4, 2014.

Deerin ran for election to the office of South Carolina Secretary of State. Deerin won the Democratic nomination in the unopposed primary on June 10. The general election took place on November 4, 2014.

Endorsements

In mid-September, Deerin received the endorsement of the South Carolina Club for Growth, who lauded Deerin's pledge "to cut the office's budget, fees and regulations."[3] Deerin was the first Democrat endorsed by the fiscally conservative group.

Race background

Republican incumbent Mark Hammond was first elected to the office of South Carolina secretary of state in 2002 and sought re-election again in 2014. Hammond and his opponent, Democratic nonprofit consultant Ginny Deerin, were unopposed in the primary.

Endorsements

In 2014, Hammond received endorsements from Citizens for Life and the South Carolina Association of Realtors prior to the general election.[4] Hammond's opponent, Ginny Deerin, received an endorsement from the South Carolina Club for Growth in September 2014, making her the first Democrat to receive the group's endorsement in a statewide race.[4]
