My parents moved to FH in 1979. They, my siblings, and our kids were and have been deeply committed to our hometown. It’s the place of lifetime memories for my 3 sons and all of us. I came in 1983, and we jumped right in, volunteering in activities and committees, even initiating ideas that had lasting effects. Some of which include my voluntary service on School Board and later as Council/Mayor, such as:

Incorporation, the Preserve, Target, the Community Center, everything Centennial, the Botanical Garden, the Theater, curbside recycling, Skate Park, Stellar Students, school buildings, Dark Sky Discovery Center, Downtown median and paving, sidewalks and our own municipal FHFD. Cultivating trusting relationships outside our borders from my years working for the State and US Attorney helped residents and businesses, funded projects, diverted local challenges and spurred economic activity. My other experiences are broad and varied.

With my math degree, I’ve been a banker, teacher and worked for an investment firm. We owned an auto repair business. I did the books there and was the accountant for the Theater, in addition to house manager, singer, and actor. Meanwhile I had a career and raised kids. This is to say I have a history of progressive commitment to Fountain Hills.
  • A safe and secure environment is the #1 responsibility, and we are a very safe community.
  • Infrastructure must be maintained and our streets need attention. With no property taxes, and after several attempts to adequately fund the repair and construction of roads, we must make some tough decisions.
  • Continue our economic development and downtown strategic, including great events and following our strategic plan, including completion of the International Dark Sky Discovery Center.
Representing the entire community, helping them enjoy their lives here, balancing spending to address needs but also amenities and activities. Also, partnering with local and regional partners to build a great Arizona.
Public safety is the #1 priority. Infrastructure repair and maintenance. Parks, events and all amenities provided through conservative budgeting. Honest, transparent communication.
That the people living here felt welcome and like family, accepted and have good memories of their hometown. Like my own sons and grandchildren, who are my real legacy.
President Kennedy's assassination. My second-grade teacher in NY was crying and we watched the small TV together when I got home.
Worked summers at my dad's office, he was a doctor. I was a camp counselor once... just once!
Thoughtful consideration for everyone in the community. Steady, fact-based governance. Representing your town locally and regionally with respect and enthusiasm.
The natural desert beauty, our dark skies, the Fountain and the volunteerism of many generous people.
Maintaining and repairing the streets. Keeping the strong sense of community.
Local decision-making is best in most cases. Having a good relationship with your Senator and Reps would be ideal. Both entities can help each other.
There have been more issues to tackle together since Covid. Generally, having good contact regarding grants, environment and transportation for example builds communities.
Law enforcement and the municipality must work together as public safety is the priority responsibility. If a city or town has a particular focus, such as speeding or youth violence, they work with LE to address it.
Several regional Mayors, community members of all parties, educators, businesspeople, firefighters, UFCW, Teamsters, Republic Services Employees, Utilities (SRP, SW Gas, Cox Communication) and more.
We go above and beyond in both categories as they are very important in order to lead effectively.
