I am a mom, a grandmother, a retired teacher and principal, a business person, a friend and now a candidate running for office. I love to learn and pass that information on to others. I believe in people and I believe that we can and should work together for the good of all. I believe that there is nothing we can't accomplish when we listen to each other and work together to solve whatever the problem might be.
  • "Legislators should be fighting to extend affordable coverage instead of finding ways to limit options." I believe that affordable and accessible healthcare should be available to all of our Georgia citizens. I will work very hard across the aisle to see that this happens.
  • "It's easy for some to say we can't afford to increase funding for quality education. I say we can't afford not to." I was a teacher and elementary school administrator for over 25 years. I know how hard teachers work each day so that all students are successful. I will work just as hard every day to see that the students and teachers have the materials they need to be successful. I will also work to see that all teachers are fairly compensated for the work that they do.
  • As a family, we always enjoyed the outdoors. As a citizen, I realize how important it is to protect the environment. As a legislator, I will work with others to see that laws are passed to protect the environment so that all citizens benefit from a world free of pollution.
I am personally passionate about healthcare, education and the environment. My husband passed away after a nine year battle with Pulmonary Hypertension, a rare lung disease. We had good insurance and he was able to receive the care he needed. I want every Georgian to have affordable and accessible healthcare.

I retired from teaching after 25 years in the field of education. It was a career that I loved. I feel strongly that all the children of Georgia deserve a quality education. I believe that our teachers deserve to paid a salary that represents the work that they do and I know that our schools should be adequately funded. To say that we are fully funded is not good enough when our teachers are still paying for necessities for their classrooms that should be provided by the school system.

As a family we enjoyed the outdoors. We loved to camp and hike and spend time on the lake. I want my grandsons to be able to do the same thing. I want them to be able to breath clean air and drink clean water. I am passionate about protecting the environment for all of our future generations.
I think an elected official should be honest and trustworthy. They should be knowledgeable and open-minded. They should be able to work across the aisle to solve problems. They should also be good listeners and remember that they are in the position they hold to serve the people of their district.
I hope that my legacy will be that I always did my best to make the world a better place. I started my career in education as a young 21 year old working in a Headstart program. My life has been dedicated to helping children have a better life through providing them an education that allows them to become whatever they want to be. I hope that by my example I will help people realize you are never too young or too old to make a difference!
The first historical event that I remember making a huge impression on me was the day President Kennedy was assassinated. I was in a Catholic high school and the announcement came over the loud speaker telling us what happened and that everyone should go to the church to pray together. There was a sound made after that announcement and everyone walked quietly into church and we prayed together.
There is a great lack of trust in not only our Federal government but also our state leadership at the present time. It will take time to heal the wounds and regain the trust of many of Georgia's citizens. We need leadership that puts the needs of the people first. Our healthcare system in Georgia needs to be strengthened. Medicaid needs to be expanded.

Many of the citizens of Georgia also feel that their right to vote is being compromised. We must do everything we can so every citizen feels secure in the fact that his or her vote is being counted. It is easy to lose the trust of the people and hard to regain it. Our leaders must earn that trust again by being open and transparent with the people they represent.

I think it is essential to build relationships with other legislators. One of the things that has hurt our country the most at the present time is the partisanship that exists within our state and country. In every job that exists we have to work with others and in order to do that it is important to build relationships both with people who think like we do and those who differ in their beliefs. We can all learn from each other if we take the time to listen and really hear what the other person is saying. I truly believe that no problem is too big to solve if we take the time to work together.
Many of the stories that I hear are about healthcare and how the cost of insurance leads many people to do without the care that they need and deserve. I recently heard the story of a young working father who could not afford his insulin. He also could not afford to take off from work to see the doctor when he needed to. Unfortunately, he passed away from not being able to afford what he needed. This story came from a pharmacist in our area. I live in a beautiful district and sometimes it is hard to believe that people in our district face the same challenges that people do in other areas of the state. But they do and when I am elected I will represent all of the people. Everyone should have access to the healthcare they need and I will fight as hard as I can to see that they get it.
